Ahead of UNGA81 High-Level Week in New York, I met with Congressman @RepMikeLawler to discuss Kosova-U.S. relations, investment, and the situation of Albanians in the Presheva Valley. I asked for his support in addressing the passivization of Albanian addresses in Serbia, which affects voting rights and access to official documents. MP Shaip Kamberi, the only Albanian member of Serbia’s National Assembly, also joined the meeting.
In addition, we discussed the judgment announced by the Specialist Chambers last week in the Hague. The judgment ignored the Dick Marty report’s offensive and implausible organ-trafficking claims, which were so far-fetched that they weren’t even charged by the Prosecution; and it also categorically rejected the Prosecution’s allegations of crimes against humanity. The remaining findings, however, were based on factual inaccuracies, historical misunderstandings, and legal errors. We expect these to be fully corrected on appeal.
